#ICJ | Fast and Desperate: Judges on their last session run against the time to finish their sentenc

[By Florencia Fernandez]

On July 28th, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) began his 10th and last session on an intense flow because the Judges were still in the middle of writing their sentence with only one hour and a half to finish.

After last session tension was solved, the Judges did their homework and did a basic study on environmental law and started debating and searching on the treaties mentioned by both countries lawyers in their memorials, to clarified with there was a breach or not.

With 11 preambles and 3 sentences, the resolution addresses a moral and environmental compensation that shall be accorded by both countries to be received from each other. Also decides for Nicaragua’s troop withdrawal in ‘Isla Calero’ and the cessation of Nicaragua caño and Costa Rica highway works.

All Judges presented were actively participating in the writing, leaving no doubt on the approval by consensus.
