Empowering People, Developing Nations

The Americas Model United Nations (AMUN) is an initiative that joins university students from all over the world to debate critical issues of the current international agenda under the rules and procedures of the UN system. The project was the first Model UN conference to be established in Latin America and is organized annually by the student body of the University of Brasília (UnB) with the support of the United Nations in Brazil. During its 15 years of history, the event has already received students from countries such as the USA, the UK, Germany, Croatia, Peru, Argentina, Portugal, Ivory Coast, Switzerland, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, El Salvador, and Nicaragua, among others.

The 15th AMUN will take place July 23-27, 2012, in Brasília, Brazil, under the theme Empowering People, Developing Nations. Six committees will be simulated. In each one of them, the central question participants will dare try to answer is: how can we enhance individuals' capacity to pursue the goals they have reason to value? At the 15th AMUN, delegates will be challenged to reflect upon the impacts of their decisions on people's lives and seek comprehensive, effective and human-sensitive solutions to tackle the enduring development challenges across today's world.   |   Read more
