AMUN Kids 2010- Education and art for saving the blue planet AMUN Kids is our model's social project. It has been created due to the understanding that the international ideals ought not to be confined at the conference rooms nor solely at academic spheres. In this sense, the project aims to spread UN values among primary school students from underserved areas of Brasilia. The AMUN Kids volunteers seek to raise the children’s awareness about some values which are decisive to build a better future which, hopefully, all of them shall enjoy. To reach these goals, the AMUN Kids staff employs ludic methods, such as role-play and the production of artwork. The direct dialogue with children plays a crucial role in transmitting very important ideas to them, such as cooperation, sustainable development and respect towards different cultures in the pursuit of a fairer and more harmonious world society. Moreover, this year’s AMUN Kids theme, “Education and art for saving the blue planet” intends to inform children about the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) – particularly the 7th, regarding the environmental sustainability insurance. This year’s main target is to educate children about the role they can play in bringing this MDG into reality.
AMUN Kids – which is now in its 5th year – has been since its creation supported by the Brazilian Federal District Secretariat for Basic Education, and on its last edition counted also with the UNICEF’s support. It has, throughout its trajectory, received fundamental aid from the Brazilian Special Secretariat for Human Rights and from the United Nations Development Program.
