UN60: Commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the UN
In 2005 the United Nations will be celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter. The Charter was signed on 26 June 1945 by the representatives of 50 countries. The theme for the commemoration has been announced: UN60: A Time for Renewal.
In this sense, AMUN will join the official celebrations in Brazil as the youth revelry of this occasion. AMUN has been actively developing proposals in collaboration with its partners.
We have already settled some activities. For the faculty advisors a special session of lectures is being arranged on the issue: "UN60: A Time for Renewal". Additionally, in commemoration of the UN's 60th anniversary, AMUN's most traditional party (the Cultural Night) has as its theme "Happy UN 60th Anniversary". You mustn't miss it.
Millennium Goals
Did you know that a billion people worldwide still survive on less than a dollar a day?
Could you? Probably not, so why expect others to do so? Is anybody doing anything to eradicate poverty and make the world a better place? The answer is yes!
At the United Nations Millennium Summit in 2000, 189 Heads of State and Governments pledged to work together to make a better world for all by 2015. On behalf of their people, they signed the Millennium Declaration which promises to free men, women and children from the dehumanizing conditions of extreme poverty and make the right to development a reality for everyone! Eight Millennium Development Goals were adopted, committing rich and poor countries to work together in a global partnership to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, ensure that all boys and girls complete primary school, promote gender equality, improve the health of mothers and children, reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS, and protect the environment -- all by 2015.
Visit the UN youth web site and learn about the Millennium Development Goals , AMUN's 2005 Conference theme.
