Dear
Delegates,
I am very pleased to welcome you all to the 7th Americas Model
United Nations. Our academic and administrative teams have
been working hard so that 7th AMUN provides you an enjoyable
time and a unique negotiation practice and academic experience.
Hope
you all are already getting prepared to our discussions in
July. All ten committees present challenging topics to be
debated, which requires previous preparation from all of you
who are going to be accredited as a country representative
in one of them.
Along
with the novelties you already know, 7th AMUN brings a small
policy modification you must be aware of in order to start
getting prepared beforehand.
One
important tool used to the discussions on the committees is
the Position Paper (PP). Although some directors may require
specific PP formats to be delivered by their delegates, a
Position Paper consists basically of a one-page country statement
for each topic on the agenda, including basic information
about your country’s foreign policy and some specificities
about the topic in question. Until AMUN’s last year
edition, delegates delivered their Position Papers upon registration
to the conference, on the first day.
Recognizing
that the Position Paper is a very important instrument to
the committees’ work, all delegates to 7th AMUN will
be required to send their PPs before July 5th.
Each delegate is supposed to send his/her position paper(s)
to the committee director(s). All position papers will then
be available at this website for reading and analysis before
the official beginning of the conference. Therefore, you will
be able to get to know the position of the other committee
members regarding the topics on the agenda in advance, identifying
possible negotiation strategies.
Moreover,
I inform you that soon our study guides will be available
on-line. We recommend you read them carefully and use it as
a base for following research and study.
I
myself and all our academic team are available in case you
have any questions regarding the conference or the position
paper delivery. My contact e-mail is melinamaia@yahoo.com.
The committees’ e-mails are also available on this website.
Many
thanks for your attention.
Best
Regards,
Melina
